Overland Park, Kan. – Michelle Stewart, an attorney with Hinkle Elkouri Law Firm LLC, has been named as a 2010 recipient of the David J. Dixon Appellate Advocacy Award, presented by the Missouri Bar Foundation.

“When Michelle goes to work she’s not looking for awards; she’s focused on providing the most thorough preparation for the entire appeals process she can for clients who are often facing complex issues,” said Mitch Herren, managing member of Hinkle Elkouri. “We’re very proud that she’s been acknowledged for her appellate work. Having an attorney with Michelle’s appellate experience puts our clients at ease that they will be represented well.”

The David J. Dixon Appellate Advocacy Award goes to young members of the Missouri Bar who are recognized for their achievement in appellate practice. Stewart has been doing appellate work for 11 years, having started when a case she litigated went to appeal. After handling the appeal herself, she continued working in the field as cases required.

“I really enjoy doing appellate work. For me, it tends to be more challenging,” said Stewart. “You hope you’re making good law when you are successful on an appeal, as that’s going to be looked at by your contemporaries as the precedent for future cases.”
