Melissa Moodie assists her clients in achieving their business goals through an efficient and practical approach. She is experienced in structuring and negotiating business transactions, including healthcare and non-healthcare entities. Melissa provides thoughtful counsel on real estate matters, particularly in real estate development. Clients routinely call on Melissa to prepare, review, and negotiate various documents and for her insight on proactive measures they can take to avoid future issues. Melissa fully immerses herself in her client’s businesses, enabling her to better understand their goals for a business arrangement or transaction.

In addition to her corporate work, Melissa counsels clients on healthcare and employment law matters. She has extensive experience working on contractual agreements within the healthcare sector, particularly in hospital-physician relationships. She advises clients on operational and compliance matters, including navigating laws such as the Anti-Kickback Statute, Physician Self-Referral (Stark Law), HIPAA, and Medicare and Medicaid coverage and reimbursement issues. Additionally, Melissa has successfully defended employers before the EEOC and KRHC and in civil cases. She guides clients through implementing personnel policies, interprets federal and state employment laws, conducts internal investigations, and provides in-house training.

In any dispute, Melissa helps clients focus on their business objectives and presents them with the different paths available, enabling them to make informed decisions. She has effectively reached resolutions for her clients through mediation without compromising their overall goals.

Melissa grew up on a ranch near Alma, Kansas, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agribusiness with a minor in Economics from Kansas State University. She earned Dean’s Honors when she graduated from Washburn University School of Law in 2005. When she’s not practicing law or serving her community, Melissa enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, or playing golf.
